About
The United Arab Emirates dirham (AED) is the official currency issued by the Central Bank of the UAE and used across all seven emirates for domestic transactions, trade, and tourism. Since 1997 the dirham has been effectively pegged to the U.S. dollar, a policy that provides exchange-rate stability supporting the UAE’s oil exports, foreign investment flows, and large expatriate remittance market. The Central Bank manages issuance and liquidity to maintain the peg and financial-system stability.
